BLINKERED

This photo series is focusing on bringing awareness to conflict and war that is happening, specifically between Israel and Palestine, and how a lot of people are trying to ignore it. I have found through talking with my peers that people in my generation have decided against educating themselves about the wars in the world. The only reason I can think of as to why they would do this is because they think that somehow their lives will be easier and happier if they do not know. As Thomas Gray said 'ignorance is bliss'. I feel that we need to use the powers we have to help bring awareness to these events so that they are not forgotten about or pushed to the side and hopefully will eventually lead to an end.

She is not me but she could be. I am a white western woman just as she is. I could ignore what was happening. People around me are ignoring what is happening. She connects to what people around me, in my generation, are thinking and saying. The images projected onto the model and the background are images taken, by other photographers, of the Israel and Palestine conflict, specifically in Gaza. The model is wearing a glamorous dress to show the viewers that she is a privileged person, living without war in her immediate life. She has been blind folded to show that she is blinded to what is going on around her in the world. The red lipstick and ribbon are there to represent the blood of the dead and injured.
